Secret Agent Gameplay Mockup (no the UI):
Secret Agent is a reading fluency game in which the player must use clues from the text in order to identify Dr. Evil, his minions, and the target of their evil plan. Players hack into Dr. Evil's chat and read messages sent by Dr. Evil and his henchpeople while filling in missing words. Careful reading is necessary to find each person, but the player has to hurry before she runs out of time and Dr. Evil escapes!
I started designing this game after being ask to consult for a company focused on developing reading skills. My central question behind the design is "Can we create reading fluency games in which the skill is situated in the context?" That is, "what "real life" situations would require someone to read quickly?" and "how can we make reading fluency more engaging than "read this, answer these questions?"
This mockup was made entirely in PowerPoint, 'cause my MacBook croaked. (2015)
